¡@¡@The College of Technology evolved from the Department of Industrial Education (DIE). Sponsored by the United States, the DIE was founded in 1953 and began with preparing schoolteachers in the following two fields-industrial arts (presently

called living technology) education and vocational-industrial education. In 1982, the program of industrial arts became the Department of Industrial Arts Education, affiliated to College of Fineand Applied Arts, and was renamed to the Department of Industrial Technology Education (DITE) in 1994. In 1996, the program of graphic arts communication in the DIE became the Department of Graphic Arts Communication Technology and had a name change to the Department of Graphic Arts Communication (DGAC) in 1998.

¡@¡@In 1997, this University decided to create the College of Technology to embrace the above three departments (DIE, DITE and DGAC) used to be affiliated to the College of Education and the College of Fine and Applied Arts with the view to strengthen the utilization of available resources and expand educational functions. Therefore, the College of Technology was founded in 1998. The founding dean (1998-2001) was Prof. Ji-Charng Lee, and the present dean is Prof. Dai-Pai Feng.

¡@¡@This University's vision is to become a teacher-training-based and well-concentrated multiple-disciplinary university. In conjunction to this vision, the College of Technology not only continues preparing schoolteachers and conducting related academic research and development, but also prepares professionals in the fields of engineering and management. At present, both DIE and DITE respectively offer undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs, and the DGAC offers undergraduate and master's programs. Apart from this, the Graduate Institute of Mechatronic Technology was approved to be founded in this College in 2002. In addition, the Graduate Institute of International Workforce Education and Development (IWED) also starts its master's  course from 2003.
