July 11, 2003 The Beijing Youth Daily reports that one of China's most renowned movie directors, Zhang Yimou, has turned down the offer of his own museum. Zhang said he did not deserve the honor. A Chinese conglomerate, the China Poly Group, and a Singapore investment company had intended to spend 40 million yuan (almost $5 million) to establish the museum in Zhang's hometown of Xian, where the tomb of the first emperor is a tourist attraction. Zhang's most recent movie, "Hero," was about this emperor.
