CHINESE LANGUAGE
The Department
of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University invites
applications for a full-time Preceptor position in the Chinese Language
Program, beginning September 1, 2004. Preceptors must be able to teach all
levels of modern Chinese. Candidates must have exemplary ability in
comprehension and active use of modern standard Chinese, written and
spoken, at native or near-native level, as well as several years
experience teaching modern Chinese at the college-level in the United
States. Preference is given to applicants with an M.A. degree or higher in
Chinese Linguistics, Foreign Language Education, or a closely related
field. Experience in computer assisted language teaching is a plus. The
position is annually reappointable to a maximum of eight years and salary
is set by scale.

Of California, Santa Barbara. The Department of East Asian Languages and
Cultural Studies invites applications for anticipated Lecturer positions
in Chinese language instruction for the 2004/05 academic year, part or
full time, contingent upon need and funding. The appointments are
potentially renewable on a yearly basis.
Applicants
should have an MA degree in Chinese language acquisition or a closely
related area with native or near native proficiency in Chinese in addition
to significant teaching experience. Lecturers will be expected to teach
various modern Chinese language courses, and should be willing and able to
train teaching assistants, compile teaching materials, and design
curriculum. Familiarity with computer assisted language instruction and
other technology in language-teaching is desirable. The salary is based on
U.C. scale and depends upon qualifications. Terms and conditions of
employment are subject to UC policy and any appropriate collective

Senior
instructors and graduate teaching assistants are needed for Beloit College
summer intensive Chinese program (June 5, 2004 - August 6, 2004). In 2004,
we expect to offer beginning, intermediate, and advanced Mandarin Chinese.
Each level, with enrollments of six to twelve students, has one instructor
and one graduate teaching assistant. Instructors collaborate with each
other and the CLS Director on curriculum, syllabi, and instruction. Duties
include classroom teaching and evaluation, and assistance with organizing
cultural activities for the program. Instructors will be expected to live
on-campus (single occupancy), eat meals with the students at lunch in the
dining commons, and be available to students evenings and weekends.
Minimum
qualifications for senior instructors include an M.A., teaching experience
preferably in an immersion environment, superior proficiency in Chinese
and advanced proficiency in English. An advanced degree in Chinese,
applied linguistics, or foreign language education is desirable. (For
graduate teaching assistants, an M.A. in progress is required). Salary is
competitive, and includes room and board. Employment is contingent upon
new employees providing documents verifying U.S. citizenship or, for
non-citizens, documents verifying legal permission to work in the United
States.
