     Staff Directory


  SEC is a university-level unit. The director of SEC is assigned by the President and pluralized by professors of Department of Special Education. There are five full-time research fellow specialized in different areas charged in various research and projects. Other staff includes 14 research assistants under different projects, resource room assistants, and part-time employee.


  Director
   Dr. Lu is a professor in Department of Special Education in National Taiwan Normal University, and serves as the director in Special Education Center. She is also the executive board member of Special Education Association of the Republic of China. In 2007, she served as president of Asian Federation on Mental Retardation.

  Dr. Lu majored in education in National Cheng-Chih University from 1969-1973. After that, she worked as a special education teacher in Taipei Municipal Ming-Lun Junior High School for 14 years. Then she pursued further study, and received her master degree in 1984 and Ph.D. degree in 1992 from University of Oregon at Eugene Oregon, USA. After returning to Taiwan, she became an assistant researcher in Special Education Center and associate professor in National Taiwan Normal University. She becomes a full professor in 1996.

  The expertise of Dr. Lu is on curriculum and instructional design for children with special needs, education for the intellectually disabled, education for the learning disabled, and education for the gifted and talented. Dr. Lu has approximately 100 publications concerning the education for the children with special needs, which include research papers, books, and journal articles. Major contents cover teaching materials and methodologies, especially in mathematics, and curriculum and IEP designs. She has also been advising more than fourty doctoral and master students’ dissertations and theses. In addition, she was invited to numerous national and international symposiums and conferences to give speeches, present research papers, and conduct workshops and to help the development of special education both for the gifted and disabled in Taiwan and some other Asian regions.

 Research Fellow

  Ms. Chen is a lecture-level research assistant in the center, and she currently also serves as a special secretary to the director. Her expertise is on education for the emotionally disturbed and learning disabilities. Her professional experiences include:

  Dr. Su serves as an associate researcher in the center, and her expertise is on education for students with hearing impairment. Her professional experiences include:

Conducting counseling work on special education schools (classes)

Developing Language Aptitude Tests for junior high and senior high school students

Developing Auditory Comprehension Tests for children with hearing impairment

Fang-Liu Su, Ph.D

Dr. Cheng is an assistant researcher in the center. She received her Master and ED. D. degrees from the National Taiwan Normal University. Her professional specialty is education for gifted children. Her professional experiences include:

Serving as an assistant professor in Department of Special Education, National Kaohsiung Normal University(NKNU)

Being a resource room teacher for gifted students in elementary school

Being a regular teacher in elementary school

Being a member of Compulsory Education Advisory Group of Taipei City

  Dr. Ko is an assistant researcher in the center. She majored in special education and received her bachelor from National Taiwan Normal University in 1996, Master of Education in 1999 and Ph.D. degree in 2007 from the University of Texas at Austin.
Her expertise is special education technology including assistive technology for people with disabilities. Her professional experiences include:

Serving as the manager in Assistive and Instructional Technology Lab of Learning Technology Center at the University of Texas at Austin

Being course instructor and teaching assistant in Department of Special Education at the University of Texas at Austin

Being research assistant in Anchored Instruction Project and Math project of Vaughn Gross Center for Reading and Language Arts at the University of Texas at Austin

Being researcher in Assistive Technology Engineering Lab

Being special education teacher in self-contained classroom for students with mental retardation in junior high school

Participating in more than 20 national and international conferences in Council for Exceptional Children, Council for Learning Disabilities, Learning Disabilities Association in Texas, Texas Computer Education Association, Texas Council of Exceptional Children, Association for Compensatory Educators of Texas, and Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association.

Participating in professional organizations including Council for Exceptional Children, Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology, Council for Learning Disabilities, and Special Education Association of Republic of China
