SPECIAL EDUCATION CENTER

The Special Education Center (SEC) was established in October 1974, under the request of the Ministry of Education on¡§The Program of Accelerating the Development of Special Education.¡¨This Center was the first of its kind in Taiwan, the Republic of China. The Center aims at promoting special education studies, sponsoring special educators' professional training, and offering assistance in solving problems in special education. The main goals are:

  1. Planning and proceeding research projects in all the related theories and practices of special education,
  2. Developing curriculum, teaching material, aids for children with special needs,
  3. Designing assessment tools for identification and diagnosis of children with special needs,
  4. Aiding the government in planning and proceeding special education policies and programs,
  5. Assisting special education teachers and administrators of junior and senior high schools in northern Taiwan in their teaching materials, methods, administration and spirits,
  6. Providing guidance on parenting to parents of children with special needs,
  7. Providing latest information, referral, consultation and assessment services for special education teachers, administrators, organizations, and exceptional children and their parents,
  8. Editing and publishing periodicals and books on special education,
  9. Collecting updated data on special education within the country and from abroad,
  10. Proceeding special education workshops and seminars,
  11. Providing in-service training programs for special education teachers, administrators of junior and senior high schools,
  12. Contacting special education organizations abroad and promoting academic exchange, and
  13. Setting up the nationwide information network
