In April 1990, NTNU was under the request of the Ministry of Education for the purpose of conducting a variety of research projects which lead to the improvement of school physical education. At the first stage, according to the research project, it was suggested to set up a center to handle school physical education issues in March 1991. In August 1 st 1992, the School Physical Education R & D Center was established for the planning of long-term school physical education courses.

    Dr. I-hsiung Hsu, professor of Department of Physical Education, was the first director of the Physical Education R & D Center from August 1992 to July 1994. Dr. Chin-lung Fang, was the second director from August 1994 to July 1997. Dr. Chih-fu Cheng was the third director from August 1997 to May 2000. and Dr. Grey-dih Liao was the fourth director from June 2000 to July 2001. Dr. Jiunn-chern Jwo was the fifth director from August 2001 to July 2003. then Dr. Lawrence Chang was the sixth director from August 2003 to July 2006.

    Dr. Jui-Fu Chen, professor of Department of Physical Education, is the current director of the center since August 2006. In August 1, 1998, due to the content of operation, the title of the center was changed into “Physical Education R & D Center”.

•  Conducting research projects leading to the improvement of physical education curricula, teaching methods and assessment in school.

•  Conducting on the job training programs for physical education teachers.

•  Establishing physical education service and consultation network.

•  Conducting physical education related international symposia, conferences, and workshops.

•  Promoting adapted physical education.
