Three students who have attended sister schools on National Taiwan Universitys (NTNU) foreign exchange program, organized by the Office of International Affairs (OIA), shared their experiences with more than 40 of their fellow NTNU students who are interested in the same opportunities at the International Lounge today.
These three students were senior English major Pai Cheng-hua (թӾ), and graduate students Tseng Hua-ching (ܴ) and Wu Ting-chih (dŪ) from the Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation.? The trio participated in OIAs student-exchange program, of which, Pai and Tseng went to Leiden University in the Netherlands and Wu went to Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada.
"I wanted to encourage students who are considering going abroad despite the difficulties associated with it, Tseng said.
Echoing Tsengs remarks, Wu said that going abroad forces students to reflect on who they are and how they present themselves.? It is necessary for students who are considering going abroad to first ask themselves why they want to go.
"Some students have a rosy picture of going abroad, and I tried to show them that if they want to go abroad, they will need to have a clearly-defined goal, Wu said.
Although she encouraged her fellow NTNU students to pursue their plans of studying abroad, Wu encouraged them to make sure what they really want before they carry out such a plan.? She also shared her experiences and discussed practical concerns for studying abroad, such as preparation for the trip and the culture shock that a student may encounter in a foreign country.
Huang Shih-chieh (), a senior from the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, said that she is considering studying jazz music, her other passion, in the Netherlands on the exchange program, although it is not related to what she is studying at NTNU now.
"This session changed my perception of going abroad and answered some questions I had, Huang said.
