The 2nd regular test of the 2008 Test Of Proficiency-Huayu (TOP), foreign people’s TOEFL, is expected to be held on November 1. Interested Huayu learners can start to register from Monday, September 15, to Thursday, October 9. It will be a paper-based test. Also, in order to reward the test-takers, the test fee is reduced from NT$1,500 to NT$1,000. ??
TOP is widely adopted by colleges and universities in Taiwan as a reference of international students’ Chinese ability. Among 1,238 test takers in the first regular test this year, 626 have passed the test and were awarded the TOP certificate. In addition, the Steering Committee for the Test Of Proficiency-Huayu (SC-TOP), TOP’s administering organization, initiated a program this year to offer special cash rewards for the top 3 test takers for each level. Test takers who score the top grade will be awarded NT$6,000, 2nd highest NT$5,000, and 3rd NT$4,000. In the first regular test, there were in total 15 test takers (TOP For Beginners: 5; Basic: 3; Intermediate: 3; Advanced: 4) who received the awards. Non-native speakers of Chinese should seize the chance and register for the coming TOP test this year.
Huayu learners could choose among 6 test centers in northern, central and southern Taiwan to take the TOP test (Northern: National Taiwan Normal University, Tamkang University, Fu Jen Catholic University; Central: Feng Chia University; Southern: Southern Taiwan University of Technology, Wenzao Ursuline College of Languages). Please find the one which is the nearest or the most convenient for you.
To register for the test, please visit any TOP test/promotion centers, fill in the registration form, and hand in the test fee (NT$1,000) in person. In alternative, the registration form can be downloaded from TOP’s official website (http://www.sc-top.org.tw).
