  • TOKYO, Japan Mini-Reunion -- April 23, 2000
James Cheng (MTC '95) was in Japan for a short visit and met up with Hiro (Ricky) Sakata (MTC '94), Eva Towada (MTC '94) and Ying (MTC '94). James and Hiro searched high and low to contact James' former classmate Eva only to find out that her place of residence was under renovation and inhabited by construction workers. After some friendly discussion and pleading with the head construction worker, a phone number was produced and we were able to contact Eva to meet up for a fun dinner in very crowded Shibuya.

  • HONG KONG, China Mini-Reunion -- January 13-16, 2000
Lynn Lee and Kiet Long (MTC '94) were in Hong Kong for a short visit and met up with Chris Chen (MTC '94), Eugene Sullivan (MTC '94), and Teruali Hirayama (MTC '95). Although attempts were made to contact Bill Shaw (MTC '95), unfortunately, he was unable to join up for the mini-reunion this time around. After meeting up for an enjoyable breakfast at The Bayou, a little bit of shopping was to be had in Mongkok for some inexpensive computer software.

  • ANN ARBOR, Michigan, USA Mini-reunion -- October 1999
Catherine Hwang ('94, Ann Arbor, U.S.A.) organized a small and spontaneous pre-Halloween reunion in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with visitors James Cheng ('95, Toronto, Canada) and Irwin Tjiong ('95, Amsterdam, Holland). Good food was enjoyed at the Gill & Grill and a great leisurely stroll through the brilliant fall colors of the nearby arboretum. We tried (but unfortunately weren't able to) to meet up with Bruce Huynh ('97) this time around, though hope to meet up during a future reunion.

  • TOKYO, Japan Reunion -- September 1999
MTCAA coordinator Lynn Lee & alumnus Kiet Long were in Japan for a short period at the end of September & met up with several other alumni while there. On Thursday, September 23, they met up with Chang Jiang (who was also on the MTC dragon boat team in '94) & Hiro (Ricky) Sakata for lunch. This was followed by a visit to the Imperial Palace, brief shopping at Tokyo's biggest electronics market, Akihabara, and a nice homecooked dinner at Ricky's place in the evening. Kiet and Lynn had lunch with Chang Jiang again on the following day (9/24), as well as drinks with Leo Kirby (Dragon Boat '95) on September 25. The big event was on Sunday, September 26: a moderate-sized get together for lunch at an Indian-Pakistani resturant followed by a visit to a local photography exhibition. About a dozen people showed up for this event, including Ricky Sakata, Leo Kirby, Junichi Matsuo (Dragon Boat '95 & '96), Kiet Long, & Lynn Lee.

  • TORONTO, Canada Mini-reunion -- August 1999
MTC Alumni got together in Toronto on the weekend of August 7 and 28. Ricky (Hiro) Sakata (1994) & Reuben Mildren (1995) were in town for some bubble tea and fun

  • HONG KONG, China Mini-reunion -- May 1999
MTC Alumni Association Global Coordinator James Cheng finished off his recent one-month tour of China with a mini-reunion in Hong Kong on May 22-23, 1999. The get-together included dinner on Saturday evening at Post 97 at Lan Kwai Fong and lunch the following day at Pepperoni in Soho. Special thanks to the Hong Kong contact person, Chris Chen, for making all of the arrangements for the two-day event. Other almuni in attendance included Steve Ayers (1993) and Franklin Lavin (1980).

  • CALIFORNIA, USA Reunion -- January 1999
MTCAA Coordinator Lynn Lee, who has been residing in Taiwan since first entering the MTC in August 1993, finally managed to make it back to the US for his first X-mas in over five years (& only his second trip home in that same period of time)! Although the Los Angeles contact person, Roger Chan, and the San Francisco contact persons, Jocelyn Liang and Lisa Nguyen, were too busy to set up official MTCAA reunions in their respective cities on such short notice, Lynn was still hoping to work something out. After a flurry of phone calls (why does CA have to have so many different area codes anyways?), he did manage to arrange several small informal get-togethers in both areas, meeting up with a number of MTCAA members, including: Andy Lee, Timothy Chen, Sammy & Jessica Chen, Adrian & Liz Cotter, Cordelia Wu, and Jocelyn Liang. Overall, everyone had a lot of fun seeing old friends again & meeting new ones, catching up on news, and reminiscing about "the good 'ol days in Taiwan." Based on the moderate success of this small string of mini-reunions and given the sheer number of MTC alumni in the California area, the possibilites of having a huge reunion there--perhaps for the turn of the century?--have tremendous potential!

  • NEW YORK, USA Reunion -- July 1998
The first MTCAA reunion was held in New York City, New York, on the July 4th weekend. As the first "MTC Alumni Association event," it was a great success with some 13 people in attendance from the eastern USA, Canada, and the UK, including Bernard Schneider ('95), James Cheng ('95), Audrey Choh ('94), Jo Tsakok ('94), Vesper Mei ('92), Trixie Schaffrath ('89), Saejung Lee ('96), David Greenblatt ('95), Helen Shaw ('97), George Huang ('96), and Deana Chuang!! Everyone had a fun time. A special thanks to everyone for coming out (and in particular, Bernard Schneider for all his work in organizing the event).
