摘要:
The talk will summarize the past studies of
the history of Chinese literature in the
West, pointing out perceptions and
evaluations changing over the time. The
argument will be about the decisive role of
the receiving cultures in shaping the early
views about the alien literature. In the
second part of the talk the impact of the
May Fourth ideas reevaluation of domestic
tradition on the literary studies in the
West will be discussed, as well as the
recent attempts
at "rewriting" the literary history of
China. The speaker will mostly deal with
pre-modern Chinese literature opening up a
question of the possibility of understanding
the past and its meaning for modern culture.
