The Office of Research and Development (ORD) promotes academic development at NTNU through stimulating research activities and adding an intercollegiate dimension to all its teaching, research and outreach programs. Established in September 1996, ORD represents the institution's earnest interest in academic research and international cooperation. Its efforts in these areas will be even greater in the coming years. There are three Divisions in the Office:
The Division of Academic Research Promotion and Coordination aims to facilitate the development of research activities at NTNU. The Division provides administrative support for educational projects funded by the National Science Council, the Ministry of Education, and other non- profit organizations. It is also responsible for collecting information about research projects with the purpose to encouraging and assisting faculty members in seeking financial support. On the other hand, the Division provides grants to assist faculty to host national and international academic activities: seminars, workshops, concerts, art exhibits, etc.
The Division of Research Planning and Coordination assumes the role of drafting research blueprints, promoting research growth, and coordinating research projects. After evaluating the university's research activities, the Division sketches out the academic prospect and plans for the mid- and long-term development of NTNU.

The Division of Research and Industry Liaison is responsible for the commercialization of research results, advice on copyright issues and transfers of patents, promotion of collaborative research between industry and school researchers and applications for intellectual property rights, patents and copyrights. It also facilitates the publication of the Journal of National Taiwan Normal University, provides grants for editing the Bulletin of NTNU and supports other academic publications in the university.
